New Subaru SUV EV: Uncharted
Ewing Subaru of Plano proudly announces the introduction of Subaru’s Uncharted EV for the 2026 model year. This compact electric crossover is the second EV for the Subaru model line. The Uncharted is about seven inches shorter than the Solterra, putting it in the sub-compact crossover class. As expected, it will be available with two motors and all-wheel drive (AWD). Less expected is that the Uncharted will also be available with a single motor and front-wheel drive (FWD). This will be the first FWD model offered by Subaru in 30 years.
Bold Exterior
The model has a distinctly sporty presence with a wedge shape, fastback roofline, and wheels pushed out to the corners. The front features six-element LED headlights and the Subaru six-star logo. The fenders are noticeably muscular, with a rear bulge that raises the belt line and wraps around 18- or 20-inch wheels. Narrow, low-profile taillights fit just below where the sloped roof meets the rear surface. Other features include a rear door handle hidden behind the door window for a coupe-like look.
Stylish and Versatile Cabin
Standard on all Uncharted models is a 14-inch center touchscreen in landscape format that works well with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, both accessible wirelessly. Also included is space on the console for not just one, but two wireless phone charging pads. The driver information center is fully digital and viewed through the squared-off steering wheel, reducing eye movement and allowing focus on both the information and the road ahead. The model seats five, and there is a generous 25 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row.
All Uncharted models come with an All-Weather Package, which includes heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, and windshield wiper de-icer. Also standard are a power liftgate, interior ambient lighting, and the DriverFocus® Distraction Mitigation System. The Uncharted Sport adds X-MODE® Dual-Mode with Grip Control, a heated steering wheel, StarTex® water-repellent upholstery, and a panoramic view monitor. The GT trim features a panoramic moonroof with a motorized shade, ventilated front seats, a digital rearview mirror, and a Harman Kardon® premium audio system.
Surprising Performance
The Uncharted features a 74.7 kWh battery under the cabin. For most models, power is sent to both the front and rear motors for a combined 338 horsepower, which is more power than the Hyundai Kona EV and Kia Niro EV, its two closest competitors. The all-wheel-drive model will come with X-MODE and has an anticipated range of 290 miles.
The entry-level Uncharted Premium FWD model will be available in limited quantities for buyers prioritizing affordability and range. It is exclusively front-wheel drive, offering an estimated range of over 300 miles and 221 horsepower at a more affordable price, which has yet to be announced.
The Uncharted will feature the NACS charge port, which is compatible with Tesla Supercharger stations nationwide. It can charge at speeds of up to 150 kW, allowing a DC fast recharge to go from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes. A battery preconditioning system enables such fast charging even in cold weather. At home, an 11-kW onboard charger offers easy access to both Level One and Level Two charging options.
