2024 Crosstrek Debuts at Chicago Auto Show

Within a National Parks-themed display the U.S. version of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek made its debut at this year’s Chicago AutoShow.  Competing for attention was an adjacent area filled with adorable rescue puppies.  The National Parks and puppies highlighted two of the four major charities that are part of the Subaru Love Promise program.  Purchasers of a new Subaru can choose one of four charities a portion of their purchase will go.  In addition to The National Parks Foundation and the ASPCA, donations can also go to Meals on Wheels and the Make-a-Wish foundation.

The 2024 Crosstrek fits in well with its surroundings, looking ready to take on what any of our National Parks can dish out.   As with previous Crosstreks, this 3rd generation is based on the also-new- for-2024 Impreza, but with higher ground clearance and enough off-pavement-focused features to consider it a separate model.

Ewing Subaru of Plano is anticipating the arrival of the 2024 Crosstrek sporting the current Subaru design language including a large hexagon grille, compact LED headlights, and bold round fog lights reminiscent of the previous generation Outback.  At a front three-quarter view, the Crosstrek displays a broad-shouldered stance, with bold fender cladding, blacked-out trim, and 8.7 inches of ground clearance.  Premium, Sport, and Limited trims get roof rails that look the business.  Deeper down is a 10% stiffer body structure that improves ride and handling.

Familiar Drivetrains

The manual transmission has been discontinued, but both engines are carried over.  So the base and Premium models continue to be equipped with the 152 hp 2.0-liter boxer 4-cyl., while  Sport and Limited trims retain the 182 horsepower 2.5-liter boxer 4-cyl. For the latter, peak torque has been tweaked from 176 to 178 lb-ft. Based on the information at the debut the Hybrid is not in the lineup.  Base and Premium models sport 17” wheels, increasing to 18” for Sport and Limited.

All Crosstreks are AWD of course, and all feature Subaru’s trademark Hill Start Assist, and driver-selectable X-MODE with Hill Descent Control, which helps maximize wheel control on both slippery surfaces and steep inclines. Sport and Limited trims add a snow/deep mode for increased capability in a wider range of conditions. 

All New Interior

The 3rd-Gen Crosstrek has a redesigned dash with all but the base trim getting the 11.6-inch SUBARU STARLINK® multimedia system currently found in the Outback. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto accompany the big screen.  The base model retains the dual 7-inch infotainment and climate screens and has AppleCarPlay and Android Auto.  The interior also features front seats that have been redesigned to provide more support for improved overall comfort and reduce fatigue on long trips. Attention was also given to reducing sounds within specific frequency ranges for a quieter and more comfortable cabin.

Improved EyeSight

The award-winning EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology will be standard on all Crosstreks.  The system has been enhanced with a wider field of view and new control software to provide a quicker, yet smoother response. The system is quicker to identify bicycles and pedestrians at intersections, whereupon it will alert the driver, and thanks to the addition of an electric brake booster, apply braking when necessary to help avoid collisions. Other available safety features include Reverse Automatic Braking, Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, as well as Automatic Emergency Steering.  The latter works with EyeSight and Blind-Spot Detection by automatically steering to help avoid collisions within a lane at 50 mph or under.
