2025 Crosstrek: What’s New?

It essentially is to the Impreza what the Outback was to the Legacy wagon. This may seem like a product development shortcut, but it results in highly respected and frequently best-in-class models. Ewing Subaru of Plano is also happy to add that they are among Subaru’s best-selling models.

The Subaru Crosstrek was completely redesigned for the 2024 model year. Subaru didn’t fix what wasn’t broken, so while it didn’t look significantly different outside, its EyeSight driver-assist and safety technologies suite were updated (with a wider field of view to better spot cyclists or cross traffic at intersections), wireless smartphone integration and the large center touchscreen were added to all but the base trim, and the Wilderness model was added. Like the Forester and Outback Wilderness models, the Crosstrek Wilderness is about as off-road ready as you will find in a crossover.

Along the way, the 2024 Crosstrek picked up a few accolades:

  • “We think the Crosstrek is the best buy in its segment” – Autoblog
  • “The value here is off the scale” – Motor Trend
  • “Best Resale Value in its Class for 6 years running” – KBB.com
  • Best New Car” – Autotrader
  • Top Safety Pick – (IIHS)
  • Overall 5-Star Rating (the highest) – NHTSA
  • Most Reliable Subcompact SUV – Consumer Reports (In the same report Subaru was named the most reliable brand in the industry.)

There’s more where that came from, but you get the idea. Thus, you can probably understand why Subaru hasn’t made too many changes for the 2025 model year.

The biggest change is that the 182-horsepower 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine is now standard on the Premium, which is just one trim above the entry-level trim. Along with the larger engine comes the enhanced dual-function X-Mode with hill descent control, now also standard on the Premium. The only other significant product change is the new Daybreak Blue Metallic optional exterior color.

Beyond that, the Crosstrek carries on with dual-zone climate control (standard on all models), keyless entry, and a push-button transmission. The base model retains the dual 7.0-inch center displays, while all other Crosstreks come with the 11.6-inch vertically positioned center touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The previously mentioned EyeSight safety and driver assistance technologies are standard across the model line. Above the base model, blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, and reverse automatic braking are added.
