Charging Station Options In The Metroplex
When thinking about buying or leasing a new vehicle, there are some things you need to take into account. Of course, cost is always the most important. When considering an electric vehicle, the main question is: where can I charge it, and how long will it take?
EVs Are Big In Texas
According to data from 2022 by the Department of Energy, Texas had the 3rd highest electric vehicle registrations in the United States. This means that not only are electric vehicle purchases increasing at a very high rate, but the number of publicly available chargers has to be keeping up with the demand so much so that people are not afraid to buy an electric car.
Are There A Lot of Chargers?
PlugShare, an independent EV information website, says there are currently 2,462 charging stations in the Dallas, Fort Worth, and Arlington areas, including 399 Tesla Superchargers that will be updated with their new Magic Dock. With Tesla Magic Dock, any non-Tesla will be able to be charged at one of their stations. Details and information regarding the implementation of Magic Docks are sparse, but as of August 2, one specific station near Fort Worth was shown to have the new Magic Dock installed and working properly, with it showing up as an available charger for EVs. While the number of chargers seems to change weekly, there are also currently 557 other Fast Chargers and 263 free charging stations available for customers. Also, PlugShare says that there are 435 ChargePoint stations, 399 Tesla Superchargers, as mentioned before, 265 stations for Blink, and 222 stations from Volta.
At the time of writing this article, there are also 200 Level 2 and Level 3 public charging stations in Plano alone.
Future EV Plans
While the Subaru Solterra is their first all-electric vehicle, it is only the beginning. Subaru is building a dedicated electric vehicle production line at their Oizumi plant in 2027, and they will be adding another EV production line at the Yajima plant around 2026. Subaru says it will enable them to build a total number of 400,000 electric vehicles each year, with 4 electric SUVs brought to the market by 2026. This will allow the manufacturer to become a global leader in EV sales.
