2023 Subaru Crosstrek Is A Great Choice For Empty Nesters

July 16th, 2023 by

Sending your kids off to college fills you with happiness, sadness, great memories, and the hope that, as a parent, you’ve done right by your children enough for them to make good, positive decisions as they grow older.

In the world of parenting, it is commonly referred to as “empty nest syndrome”, or the time when you start to realize the house is quieter and less busy, and you actually have time to think about what you want to do during the day, versus having your day planned out having to do things for your children.

New Possibilities

This is where the Subaru Crosstrek comes in. As a purposeful vehicle to help you transition to a new life built around your wants and needs, the Crosstrek has you covered. Whether you want to go camping, fishing, traveling around the country, or just enjoy a nice drive on beautiful roads on a clear day, the Subaru is the car for the empty nesters. Life is about options, and your Subaru Crosstrek helps you achieve those wants and needs effectively.

Cost Conscious

With a base price of just $23,645 for a manual-equipped Crosstrek, not including destination and handling fees, you can have some fun and be financially responsible. Stepping up to a CVT model brings you to $24,995, not including destination and handling fees. All vehicles come equipped with a 6.5-inch touchscreen multimedia display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, with an 8-inch display being optional on higher trim levels.

Fuel Mileage

A manual 2023 Subaru Crosstrek can achieve up to 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, respectively. And the CVT-equipped Crosstrek with the 2.0-liter motor will get 28 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, respectively, while the Sport and Limited trim models with the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder can get up to 27 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, respectively.

If you prefer the Crosstrek Hybrid, you can achieve upwards of 35 mpg with 17 miles of all-electric driving range. The base price is $36,845, not including destination and handling fees.

Safety Is Job # 1

As an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick for the gas-powered car and the coveted Top Safety Pick+ for the Hybrid version, the Crosstrek is made with safety and security in mind. Standard for all CVT-equipped vehicles is Subaru’s EyeSight driver assistance technology, which features automatic pre-collision braking, pre-collision throttle management, lane-keep assist, lane departure, and sway warnings, adaptive cruise control with automatic lane centering, among others.

New Lifestyle Choices

If you’re looking to have an activity-filled empty nest lifestyle, the Subaru Crosstrek can tow up to 1,500 lbs, which is plenty to pull a small trailer with camping gear or some jet skis. And once you get where you’re going, you bring along a rooftop tent that you can erect within minutes. The roof can handle up to 700 lbs when the car is not in motion, so you can feel safe knowing you won’t damage your car.

The 2023 Crosstrek also has plenty of interior volume to swallow up most of what you could put in it. With 20.8 cubic feet of hatch space behind the rear seats and 55.3 cu.ft. with the rear seats folded, you can easily carry your pets and luggage, or just lots of DIY goods for home projects.

Off-Roading

Now let’s say none of this appeals to you, and instead, you just want to do some adventuring on trails and such. Well, with an 18-inch approach angle, 19.7-inch breakover angle, and 28.6-inch rear departure angle, the Subaru Crosstrek can easily get around in most situations when you leave the path most traveled for the least traveled option. If you opt for the Crosstrek Sport trim level, you will get a special X-Mode, which allows you to change the settings of the vehicle for whatever conditions you’re driving on, like snow, wet, or dry terrain, or turn on hill-descent control, where the vehicle will drive down steep hills at a low speed. All CVT-equipped Crosstreks get X-Mode with hill descent as standard equipment, with the Sport trim receiving a special version of X-Mode.
