Ewing Subaru of Plano Encourages You to Take Part in Dog Rescue Day
Have you heard the term “The Dog Days of Summer”? It refers to the hottest and most humid period of summer, officially spanning from July 3rd to August 11th. Despite evoking images of dogs panting in the heat, it actually has little to do with dogs. Instead, it dates back to the Romans, who associated the rise of Sirius (the Dog Star) with the hottest days of summer. Nevertheless, August is recognized as National Dog Month, a time to pay special attention to your canine pets with extra treats or special outings. If you don’t have a dog, Ewing Subaru of Plano directs your attention to May 20th, which is National Dog Rescue Day.

“Subaru Loves Pets” is one of the five focus areas of the Subaru Love Promise. The ASPCA is one of the charities you can choose to automatically receive a donation from your new Subaru purchase. Additionally, Subaru encourages everyone to provide a loving home for pets and collaborates with local dealers like us to support pet shelters and adoption initiatives.
For our part of the Subaru Loves Pets effort, Ewing Subaru of Plano has partnerships with:
- Take Me Home Rescue
- Dallas Pets Alive
- Rocky Road Refuge
Ewing Subaru of Plano helps support these organizations and encourages anyone who can adopt a pet to give it a loving home. You can do this anytime, but National Dog Rescue Day on May 20th certainly seems like a great target date for adding a fuzzy new member to the family.

Subaru has its own dedicated day for dog adoption, known as the annual Make a Dog’s Day, which is celebrated on October 22nd. The goal is to encourage dog lovers to pamper their pets and consider adopting or fostering a dog, especially those waiting for their forever homes. They place particular emphasis on older and disabled dogs, which are often overlooked in shelters. Since launching the Subaru Loves Pets initiative, Subaru has facilitated the adoption of more than 134,000 animals across the country. However, approximately 6.5 million animals enter U.S. animal shelters each year.

If you feel ready to adopt a dog or cat into your home, we encourage you to visit one of our partner shelter organizations:
