Convenience is what we live for. HomeLink is one of those conveniences we appreciate every time we arrive home from a day’s worth of stress. You will find on the rearview mirror of your Subaru a set of buttons. Three of them are part of a great feature called HomeLink.

What is HomeLink? It is a high-tech home automation system that has quickly become one of the most trusted car-to-home platforms on the market. Featuring wireless controls for garage doors and gates, HomeLink seamlessly integrates your Subaru to your house or apartment. With HomeLink installed in your Subaru, you never have to worry about using another garage door remote control.

Setting up and using the HomeLink system in your new Subaru is simple and straightforward. It should only take a few minutes. All you need is your current garage or gate opener, to be within range of said garage or gate, and of course your new Subaru.

Here is the process of setting up your HomeLink connection from your Subaru to your garage door or gate opener:

  1. Press and release the HomeLink button you would like to program. The indicator light will begin flashing orange.
  2. Hold your garage or gate remote within 1-2 inches of your Subaru HomeLink system, and hold the open button on your remote.
  3. Continue holding the remote button until the HomeLink indicator light turns solid green. If it flashes quickly, skip to step 5.
  4. Release both buttons, then press the HomeLink button once to confirm. Your HomeLink is now paired, and setup is complete.
  5. Enter your garage and locate the garage door opener. Once located, press the LEARN or SMART button on the back of the device.
  6. Return to your Subaru within 30 seconds, then press the HomeLink button for two seconds. Repeat this button press three times.
  7. The garage door opener should now be paired and can now be opened with both your remote and the HomeLink system.

After several openings and closings, you have the option to ditch the garage door opener remote and store it away safely; you will find that HomeLink is as reliable as that remote. If anything goes wrong with the connection between the two, you can call on your garage door opener repair person, as he or she usually knows what the issue is and can resolve it quickly.
