MotorWeek Looks at the New 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid

August 15th, 2025 by

Everyone is talking about the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid. It has become the vehicle of the moment, combining electrification with all of the great attributes our popular SUV offers its owners.

The conversations are continuing. The long-running television program, MotorWeek, recently took a “quick spin” in the new 2025 Forester Hybrid. The host’s initial reaction to the newest version of our popular SUV was that Subaru has “done it in a way that doesn’t sacrifice any of the original’s strengths.”

What this means is that Subaru added an electric motor and a battery. This electric drive system not only helps to add more performance to the current 2.5-liter BOXER engine and driveline, but also to improve fuel economy and lower emissions. That powertrain is now rated for 194 net combined horsepower.

All 2025 Forester Hybrids are equipped with the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. Combined with the hybrid drive system, it can return an Environmental Protection Agency-rated 34 mpg on the highway and 35 mpg in the city. The 2025 Forester Hybrid has a range of 581 miles on a full tank of fuel.

If you put the 2025 Forester Premium next to a Hybrid Premium model, you will find that there is no difference between the two—just the Hybrid badge on the front doors and liftgate. The hybrid comes in four trim levels: Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring.

The same would be said inside, where you will find the new customizable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster screen that provides information about your 2025 Forester Hybrid. The Forester Hybrid has the 11.6-inch Starlink infotainment touchscreen standard. This is the hub for all connectivity in your vehicle, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The rest of the interior will be as familiar as in the other Forester models.

The MotorWeek team took the 2025 Forester Hybrid off-road. They said that “some light off-roading further showcased the Hybrid’s capabilities, exactly what we’d expect from a Forester.”

Another important feature that is standard on all Forester Hybrids is the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology and all of the associated features. As a result of this advanced technology and the way it is constructed for high-strength crash protection, the 2025 Forester Hybrid was designated as an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick.

The 2025 Forester Hybrid is now here at Ewing Subaru of Plano. If you want to see it live and in person, contact us to get acquainted with the 2025 Forester Hybrid. Also, you can watch episodes of MotorWeek on select Saturdays at 2:30 PM on KERA DT Channel 13.3.
