Parents Magazine Names Forester Best Family Car Crossover

Many young families choose crossovers because they are versatile family vehicles. Parents Magazine, which evaluates everything from a parenting perspective, annually highlights a selection of new model vehicles across various categories, including the technology, performance, safety, and convenience features that cater to a family’s specific needs within their competitive set. While there are several categories for different SUVs, the 2025 Forester was selected for the Best Family Cars Award in the Crossover category. Ewing Subaru of Plano provides further information. 

Parents’ judges are all parents, and all have a connection to the automotive industry.  Some have automotive-related YouTube and Instagram channels.  One is the president of the Texas Auto Writers Association, and another is an analyst for automotive research firm Auto Pacific.  Another is the founder of A Girls Guide to Cars website. For 2025, they evaluated more than 180 vehicles across 22 categories. In addition to the usual performance evaluation, they look mainly at family-friendly features, car seat convenience, and how well technology operates in a family context. 

Several aspects of the Forester led to the judges’ decision.  The standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive System was considered a plus for anyone dealing with brutal winters or what they referred to as the “mud season.”  The sophisticated standard Subaru Eyesight® suite of safety and driver assistance technologies was also recognized, as were additional safety features such as: 

• Reverse Automatic Braking 
• Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist 
• Rear Cross Traffic Alert 
• Emergency Stop Assist. 

Forester’s Rear Seat Reminder is a particularly family-friendly feature, which alerts drivers to check the rear seat for occupants or pets before exiting. You might think you could never forget you have a kid in the back seat, but exceptionally busy parents can tell you stories. Forester also earned a TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, their highest award, and the overall 5-star evaluation from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. 

It wasn’t all about safety, though.  The large windows that “offer everyone great visibility” were noted, as well as the Forester’s “go anywhere, do anything’ attitude (that) inspires families to get out of the house and back into nature.”
