Subaru BRZ tS Debuts at Subiefest California

A higher-performance BRZ was rumored to be in the pipeline. It was also rumored to be revealed at Subiefest California. Both those rumors are true. Ewing Subaru of Plano can now announce the global debut of the Subaru BRZ tS that occurred at the Subiefest California event on Sunday, July 23. The new trim level offers will be the best-handling BRZ from the factory thanks to an STI-tuned suspension, Brembo braking system, and Michelin summer tires. Coinciding with the tS reveal is the announcement that Subaru has succeeded in making EyeSight Driver Assist Technology compatible with a manual transmission, and will now be standard on all BRZ models. 

More Jazz for the Chassis

Capitalizing on what the BRZ already does best, the tS is all about improved handling. 

The STI tuning starts with front and rear Hitachi® dampers, which take full advantage of the model’s lightweight, ultra-low center of gravity and precision handling. The result is both greater flexibility and better control & stability. Brembo® brakes are added to all four corners with gold-painted 4-piston front calipers at the front and similarly gold-painted 2-piston calipers at the rear, along with larger rotors and pads. The improvements are comprehensive, with shorter stopping distances, better pedal feel, and greater fade resistance. To fit around the larger brakes are 18-inch wheels mounted with 215/40 R18 Michelin Pilot® Sport 4 tires for superior grip and quicker turn-in.

Bringing EyeSight to the Stick Shift

Subaru’s award-winning EyeSight Assist Technology is available for the first time with a manual transmission. The system includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking System, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, and Lead Vehicle Start Alert. EyeSight Assist will now be standard on all 2024 BRZ models regardless of transmission.

Subtle Aesthetic Enhancements

In terms of appearance, the tS models will be identifiable but with subtlety. The outside mirrors and shark-fin antenna will have a Crystal Black Silica finish, and the 18-inch wheels will have a dark gray finish. tS badging will be added to the front grille and rear decklid. tS models will be available in all BRZ colors.

The interior will feature exclusive tS contrasting blue stitching on the front seat bolsters, steering wheel, and boots for both the shifter and parking brake. BRIN NAUB® nubuck-like material enhances the instrument panel visor and door trim. You’ll find the STI logo is displayed on the red starter button and 7-inch digital instrument cluster, which are also updated with tS-exclusive red accents. The tS is based on the Limited trim level to which it adds:

• Heated exterior power mirror
• Upgraded audio system with two additional speakers and a 2-channel amplifier 
• Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Keep Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert;
• Steering Responsive Headlights
• STARLINK® Safety and Security.

The drivetrain for the tS is the same 2.45-liter Boxer-4 producing 228 hp @ 7000 rpm and peak torque of 184 lb-ft @ 3700 rpm. It will be mated exclusively to the 6-+speed manual transmission and, like other BRZs, includes a TORSEN® limited-slip differential.

All BRZs handle very well, but if you have been waiting for a BRZ with a handling edge, the tS is what you have been waiting for. And you will have to wait just a little longer as the first BRZ tS models can be expected to arrive at Subaru of Rochester in the first quarter of 2024.
