Subaru Earns Three Drivers Choice Awards From Car & Driver
Every year, Car and Driver issues their Editor’s Choice List. Subaru of Plano is proud to announce that three Subaru models were included in Car and Driver’s 2024 Editors’ Choice Awards.
Unlike other awards that choose among new or redesigned models, the candidates for the Editor’s Choice List can be any model sold in the US. Thus, these vehicles are selected from among 500 models in 36 categories. Each is considered among the best in their respective categories. The three 2024 Subaru models selected by Car and Driver for this honor are:
- BRZ – Affordable Sports Car
- Crosstrek – Compact SUV
- Outback – Station Wagon
“We are thrilled the BRZ, Outback, and all-new Crosstrek are 2024 top picks by the editors at Car and Driver,” said Jeff Walters, President and Chief Operating Officer of Subaru of America, Inc. “Our goal as an automaker is to deliver vehicles that are built to the highest standards of safety, performance, and technology.”
Car and Driver drives, tests, and compares models throughout the year. The criteria used to determine the vehicles selected for the Editor’s Choice list include:
- Results from Car and Driver’s industry-leading rigorous instrumented testing
- Editors’ subjective evaluations of each vehicle’s:
- Performance
- How well a vehicle fulfills its intended mission
- The ranking each vehicle earns within its market segment versus its competitors.
“The vehicles on this list have the equivalent of the highest grade-point averages, and they comprise approximately the top quarter of the market. These are the ones we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to our friends, families, and you. We’ve bought more than a few of these vehicles ourselves.”
BRZ
The editors praised the 2024 BRZ for its fundamental sports car attributes, which include:
- Low weight
- Ultra-low center of gravity
- Precision steering
- Agile handling
Plus, they appreciate that it delivers all this sports car goodness in an affordable 2+2 package. The 2.4-liter SUBARU boxer-4 fitted to the 2nd-generation BRZ produces 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The BRZ 2024 has a starting price of $30,195 and is available in Premium, Limited, and tS trim levels.
Crosstrek
The Crosstrek was fully redesigned for 2024 with new exterior and interior styling, improved ride and handling, and enhanced safety, with all but the base models getting the STARLINK® system with an 11.6-inch touchscreen. Even as the 3rd-generation Crosstrek overtly wears its Impreza roots, Car and Driver finds it to be more off-road capable than most compact SUVs with a comprehensive list of standard and available features. Moreover, it has a competitive starting price of $24,995. The 2024 Crosstrek is available in Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Wilderness trim levels.
Outback
First, it has to be said that there just aren’t that many wagons anymore. In fact, most other wagons are from European luxury brands. Car and Driver recognized the 2024 Outback for delivering an optimal blend of SUV capability and car-like ride and handling. Like the Crosstrek, its 8.7-inch ground clearance is greater than that in many SUVs, and it rises to an almost Jeep Wrangler level of 9.5 inches in the Wilderness trim level. And yet, the Outback maintains a comfortably low step-in height, which they state: ”continues to be the wagon of choice for adventurous families—and those who just want to look adventurous.” With a starting price of $28,895, the 2024 Outback is available in Base, Premium, Limited, Touring, Onyx Edition, Wilderness, and XT trim levels.
Subaru of Plano already knew these models were winners, but third-party recognition is always appreciated. If you are in the market for any of these segments, it is time for you to visit us and find out that they are likely to become your choice as well.
