It is no secret that Subaru has made incredible commitments to both the environment and the surrounding Greater Dallas communities with the Subaru Love Promise. Through five different tiers of this promise, Loves the Earth, Loves to Care, Loves to Help, Loves Learning, and Loves Pets, Subaru has been able to provide tremendous impact to areas surrounding their dealerships.

Recently, the Subaru Loves Learning tier of the Subaru Love Promise teamed up with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, or AAAS, to announce the winners of the 2022 SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books. This prize is awarded to books that provide scientific knowledge to children through exemplary writing and scientific illustrations.

The 2022 SB&F Prize Winners are:

Children’s Science Picture Book – Mimicry Makers: Biomimicry Inventors Inspired by Kristen Nordstrom – This book follows 10 scientists who imitate plants and animals in order to expand on existing technology or create something brand new. It was chosen as a prize winner because panelists decided it shows perfectly how attention to nature and careful observations can lead to significant change.

Middle Grades Science Book – A Shot In the Arm! Big Ideas That Changed the World by Don Brown – Perhaps one of the more topical books on this list, this one explores the history and science surrounding vaccines up until COVID-19 took hold of the world. It explores how vaccines work, bacteria, and real world information about the human immune system.

Young Adult Science Book – Great Adaptations: Star Nosed Moles, Electric Eels, and Other Tales of Evolution’s Mysteries Solved by Kenneth Catania – The author of this book dives deep to explore all of the amazing mysteries of science, including snakes with tentacles and more. He also talks about how each of these organisms were impacted by evolution.

Hands-On Science Book – Sky Gazing: A Guide to the Moon, Sun, Planets, Stars, Eclipses, and Constellations by Meg Hatcher – This book leads children to explore everything about the sky without the use of a telescope. The panelists who selected this book called it “approachable” for children looking to get started on star-gazing.

All the above mentioned winning books are currently available in the Metroplex schools and libraries. Reach out to a library near you to read any of these amazing books!

At Ewing Subaru, community involvement and achievements are our goal with our Subaru Love Promise. We, at Ewing Subaru, congratulate and support these incredible winners as they help to improve science knowledge for our youth of America and beyond!
