2026 Blue Subaru Solterra Driving through mountainsElectric vehicles are not often seen as the most off-road-ready vehicles. They are mainly designed to simplify your daily driving habits by eliminating the need for gasoline and reducing road noise. The Subaru Solterra EV, however, aims to change the way we think of all-electric vehicles, as it comes standard with Subaru Symmetrical all-wheel drive, and is actually able to tackle more than just a muddy road.

An All-New Car Calls for New Battery Tech

As an all-new vehicle for 2026, the updated and upgraded Solterra starts at $39,945 and features five trim levels: Premium, Limited, Limited XT, Touring XT, and Touring XT Leather. All models are powered by a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery. The Standard and Limited trim levels feature two 87 kW motors, one on each axle, and these trims produce 233 horsepower, achieving an EPA-estimated driving range of 288 miles.

The First-Ever XT Model

The first-ever XT models feature newly upgraded motors, a 167 kW motor on the front and an 87 kW motor on the rear axle. The XT trims deliver a total of 338 horsepower to all four wheels, giving the Solterra a significant boost in power that it has never had before. The EPA also says these new XT models will still deliver 278 miles of driving range. Subaru says that, thanks to the added horsepower, the Solterra XT will get to 60 mph in just 5 seconds.

Still An Off-Road King

The Solterra still features 8.3 inches of ground clearance and comes equipped with the X-Mode Dual-Mode system, which allows drivers to choose between Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes for tackling challenging terrain. With Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control, the Solterra will give drivers the confidence to tackle any surface in front of them.

The Solterra Can Now Charge at Tesla Superchargers

Another welcomed feature on the 2026 Solterra is the ability to use Plug and Charge at over 25,000 Tesla Superchargers around North America. Previous-generation 2023-2025 Solterra models are also able to charge at Superchargers via a Subaru Accessory Fast Charging NACS adapter, which can be purchased at your local dealer, including Ewing Subaru of Plano.

Improved Charging Capabilities

The previous generation Solterra had a 100 kW charging capability. The new model is capable of charging up to 150 kW and has the ability to precondition the battery to ensure it’s at the optimal temperature before charging begins. Subaru says the new 2026 model will charge from 10-80% in only 30 minutes on a DC fast charger.

First Drive Reviews Love the Solterra

In initial drive reviews, the 2026 Solterra has been receiving rave responses that appreciate its new styling, power, excellent cargo capacity, and its AWD system, which is ready to take you down more than just a dirt road.

A First Drive Review from GearJunkie

In their first drive review, GearJunkie wrote, “The 2026 Subaru Solterra drives easily in the city and on the highway with modern design and tools to assist drivers and make the commute as painless as possible. But those who venture into wild places on the weekend, it’s a little EV that can, offering reasonable cargo space and capable all-wheel drive. I came away from the test thinking it’ll be a wonderful option for many Denverites who commute daily but often hit ski resorts and mountain bike trails hours from the city.”

An All-New Interior

Subaru didn’t just focus on battery technology with the new Solterra. With a fully redesigned interior, drivers and passengers alike will appreciate the new materials, the StarTex synthetic leather surfaces, and the new standard 14-inch infotainment touchscreen. All models also come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, along with a 15W charging pad in the center console.
