Subaru Takes Nitro RX Championships
Winning championships is what we’re made of. It is proof that a great automobile is worthy of the punishment it receives whether it is on the racetrack or something more extreme. In our case, it’s through the woods, across the desert, and up in the mountains.
It came as no surprise for us to learn that Travis Pastrana and Scott Speed secured the Nitro RX teams championship for Subaru Motorsports USA. Both drivers were tied for the individual championship, however the championship went to Pastrana by the virtue of event wins. Pastrana won two Nitro Rallycross races to Speed’s one. Subaru driver Timmy Hansen finished third in the points hunt.
These victories came at their event in Starke, Florida. The Florida International Rally & Motorsport Park is mostly made up of tarmac. That did not stop the Subaru Motorsports USA drivers from accomplishing their task of securing the wins they needed in this series.
The Nitro RX double championship and 1-2 driver’s title finish caps off a season that included five stage rally victories and the ARA driver’s title, three rallycross event wins, a second-place finish at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and a new record at the Mt. Washington Hillclimb—the most successful season in the history of the Subaru Motorsports USA program.
All of this was accomplished in the outgoing generation of the Subaru WRX STi. This championship winning vehicle has scored more wins in rallying, rallycross, and other related motorsports globally for well over a decade.
It was a great season for Pastrana, Speed, Hansen and the Subaru Motorsports USA team. And, there’s more to come for 2022!
