Subaru Wins Six Top Safety Picks From IIHS
Each year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety carefully evaluates many different vehicles to determine how safe they are for drivers. After careful consideration, they name their Top Safety Picks, a prestigious award that allows you to know which vehicles on the market are likely to offer an elevated level of protection on the road. This year, for 2022, Subaru swept up by having six of their vehicles on the list.
To make the list, vehicles go through six distinct categories for crash testing. These tests include moderate overlap front, driver-side small overlap front, passenger side small overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints and seats. IIHS also takes this time to analyze the functionality of the headlight system and the integrity of the LATCH child safety system.
While Subaru is no stranger to the Top Safety Picks list, it is always an honor to be awarded this prestigious award. Four of their vehicles were awarded with Top Safety Pick + Awards, meaning they registered “good” in all six evaluation categories and “good” in headlight evaluations. The remaining two vehicles on the list secured a Top Safety Pick award.
These Top Safety Pick + winners included popular Subaru vehicles like the Subaru Ascent, which has been a TSP winner for five years running. Additionally, the Subaru Legacy and Outback clinched the category and have held the title for 17 years and 14 years, respectively. The final entrant to the Top Safety Pick + winner list was the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid, which has been a TSP+ for the past four years.
The same winning criteria exists for traditional Top Safety Pick winners, for which Subaru registered two additional models. The Subaru Crosstrek won this award for 2022 and for the past 11 years and finally, the Subaru Impreza, a fifteen year winner, took the title as well.
