Which Subaru Models Have the Best 5-Year Cost to Own?

These days, every purchase is all about finding the best value. Luckily, Subaru excels in that department. Kelley Blue Book awarded five separate Subaru models with the Lowest 5-Year Cost to Own Awards, adding to the long list of awards for Subaru over 2023. In order to determine which vehicles cost the least to own and maintain, KBB uses a combination of their Residual Values and calculated depreciation that results in the project cost of ownership over five years.
Subaru has always remained committed to providing their car owners with the best value; not just at the time of purchase, but years later, too. That’s because all Subaru models are truly made to last, from the high-quality materials to the functional and durable designs inside and out. These models are projected to cost the least in maintenance and ownership costs over a five-year period. KBB acknowledges that the vehicles with the best value don’t always cost the least upfront and can, in fact, cost more to own over time.
2023 Lowest 5-Year Cost to Own: SUVs
Subaru is known for their rugged, stylish, and durable crossovers and SUVs, so it’s not surprising that so many topped the various SUV categories. The 2023 Subaru Outback earned the honors for 2-row SUV with one of the lost 5-year costs coming in almost $9,000 below the segment average. Earning the win for the Compact SUV category, the 2023 Subaru Forester costs $3,635 less than the segment average over five years. Rounding out the SUV segment is the Subaru Ascent, costing about $5,000 less than comparable 3-row midsize SUVs.
2023 Lowest 5-Year Cost to Own: Cars
Not only is it a joy to drive, the 2023 Subaru BRZ costs significantly less than other sports cars to own over a five-year period – around $16,500 less! That’s a major difference, especially considering the built-in durability and power behind its 2.4L SUBARU BOXER engine. The last vehicle on the list, the Subaru Impreza, is the compact car with the lowest cost to own according to Kelley Blue Book. It’s not only a great value in the long-run; with a starting price of just $19,795, it has a low upfront cost as well.
