Consumer Reports Names Subaru Best Mainstream Brand

While most of the automakers ranked near the top by Consumer Reports are luxury brands, Subaru was higher as a whole.

Consumer Reports Director of Auto Testing, Jake Fisher, remarked on how amazing it is that Subaru as a company can compete with luxury brands without blinking, saying, “What’s more interesting, probably at the top, is seeing Subaru … sandwiched between two luxurious expensive German automakers, and that’s almost more impressive that this is a brand with much more affordable vehicles that also score well.”

Lowest Cost To Own

This should not be a shock to anyone, however, as Subaru is used to being a brand that champions their record for safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction. Kelley Blue Book announced in 2023 that the Outback, Forester, and Ascent had all received top honors in their research. The Outback has the lowest cost-to-own ratio of all midsize 2-row SUVs, while the Forester is the most popular and has the highest loyalty among its buyers, and the Ascent has the lowest 5-year cost-to-own of any full-size 3-row SUV.

Forbes ranked Subaru as one of the best brands for social impact in 2023, and the Crosstrek, Outback, and Forester are some of the longest-running Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ award winners by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
