After 40,000 Miles, How Was Car and Driver’s Experience with the Subaru BRZ?
“I’m having trouble finding something to dislike about this car.” One of Car and Driver’s technical editors repeated the same sentiment as his colleagues in the notes on the long-term 2023 Subaru BRZ the outlet had been reviewing. An associate news editor added that “[e]ach time I go a few weeks without driving the BRZ, I start to think that it can’t be as good as I’ve made it out to be, but then I drive it again, and it’s just as good as I remember.”
These were just a few of the sentiments felt by Car and Driver after logging 40,000 miles in Subaru’s sports coupe. The Limited tester came with upgraded 18-inch wheels riding on Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. It was well-equipped for the needs of the outlet. Powering the BRZ was the 228-horsepower 2.4-liter BOXER four-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual transmission. It was also equipped with a Torsen limited-slip differential.
This spec was perfect for the array of testing Car and Driver put the BRZ through. It made hot laps on some of this country’s best racecourses. It also did stints on miles of interstate highways and country byways, along with a few stops at the grocery store.
Let’s take a look at other quotes from the Car and Driver staff…
“Sometimes it’s the little things that make me love a car. The door cupholders are roomy enough for a big Potbelly sandwich.”
“Is there a better car to drive on a snowy day? This thing is just so fun and easy to steer with your right foot.”
“I love the true sports-car simplicity of the BRZ.”
“This is the type of car that coaxed me out onto a two-hour drive with no destination, just driving for the pure joy of it.”
“There’s a rawness about the BRZ that is endearing—proof that affordable cars are more fun.”
There’s no need to translate all of this into why the BRZ evoked this level of feedback. It brings on “back-to-basics” driving pleasure. You can choose between a manual or automatic transmission—one of a few vehicles out there that offers you the choice. Plus, the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is standard on all BRZ models.
