How Does Subaru Lane Keep Assist Work?

If you’re the owner of a new Subaru model, there’s a good chance that it is equipped with the Subaru EyeSight list of high-tech safety features. One of those features is Lane Keep Assist, which can go a long way toward keeping you on the straight and narrow while driving. We’re going to go ahead and take a look at how Subaru’s Lane Keep Assist system works and what it does.

It doesn’t matter how good of a driver you might be… mistakes and accidents happen. Nobody intentionally dozes off at the wheel and nobody intentionally slips their hand off the steering wheel, ultimately causing the vehicle to stray outside of its designated lane. Lane Keep Assist is designed to ensure these accidents remain nothing but minor mistakes rather than something more serious.

With this system equipped, your Subaru scans the road, detecting the lane markings on either side of the lane. If you signal an intended lane change, the system will know that you’re planning to change lanes and won’t be activated. However, if the vehicle begins to stray outside those lane marketing without the turn signal being activated, then it will give you an audible warning and a visual warning in the instrument cluster.

At this point in time, the vehicle will expect you to react and move the steering wheel to send the car back within the correct lane. If you fail to act, however, the vehicle will act for you, helping to guide the car back within the lane markings.

Does Lane Keep Assist Really Make a Difference?

Lane Keep Assist, along with other EyeSight features, is truly more than just some fancy tech with a nice-sounding name. It truly does make a difference. In fact, in 2021,, every single Subaru model that was equipped with EyeSight received the highest rating possible from the IIHS’ front crash prevention test.
