How Subaru Is Attracting Older Buyers

May 20th, 2025 by

Automotive marketing generally aims to appeal to a younger demographic because automakers want you to see young faces driving their vehicles. Deeper still, the goal is to instill brand loyalty from an early age. The idea is that if you introduce customers to your vehicle while they are young and they have a positive experience, they are more likely to continue buying your brand in the future. Subaru is not exempt from this trend; however, it acknowledges that more experienced, mature vehicle shoppers highly value many of Subaru’s features. Ewing Subaru of Plano explains.

Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive

The Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system is standard on all Subaru models (excluding the BRZ sports car). The system keeps a Subaru sure-footed not only off the pavement but also when the weather is wet or worse. The weather is the same for all ages, but older people, simply by having been driving longer, are more likely to either have had a weather-related traffic incident themselves or know someone who has. Knowing that your vehicle is fully prepared for foul conditions is a higher priority.

Ground Clearance

Subarus generally have higher ground clearance than other AWD vehicles. Getting stuck in the snow or mud is no fun for anyone, but the older you get, the less you want to deal with such things. The ground clearance also makes entry and egress easier.

Subaru EyeSight

Another factor concerning safety is the Subaru EyeSight suite of safety and driver assist technologies, standard on every current Subaru model. It includes features like pre-collision braking, pre-collision throttle management, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure/sway warning, all designed to enhance safety and offer a more confident driving experience. These are important for anyone who drives, but with maturity comes an enhanced appreciation of safety.

Awards

Subaru understands that while its AWD and EyeSight systems can help prevent collisions, they do not make vehicles immune to them. Therefore, great care has been taken in ensuring the crashworthiness of every model. This commitment has resulted in Subaru earning more Top Safety Pick+ awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) than any other brand over the past 12 years. Additionally, Subaru maintains an excellent record with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), with every fully tested model receiving an overall NHTSA Five Star rating, the highest accolade.

If safety wasn’t enough, a Consumer Reports story headlinedWhich Brands Make the Best Cars?” named Subaru as the top brand out of the 32 luxury and mass-market brands sold in the U.S.

It is harder to find a better price to shop for a Subaru than Ewing Subaru of Plano, with its vast inventory and world-class service department.
