We Drove the 2025 Subaru Outback Touring XT
If you had to deal with the winter weather we got in the Metroplex recently, which vehicle would you choose to handle it? Subaru has a lineup of vehicles that would be your answer. And not just because of the standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, or because some of our vehicles are equipped with X-MODE or dual-function X-MODE.
If you were to choose one Subaru…how about the Outback?
For the past 30 years, the Outback has been a symbol of what our customers with active lifestyles want in a vehicle. This goes beyond protective cladding, higher ground clearance, and all-wheel drive. It is about allowing you to do what you want anywhere you roam.
Recently, we got to test out a 2025 Outback Touring XT. We took it on tasks across our part of the Metroplex. The purpose of doing so was cause for celebration – the Outback’s 30th anniversary.
The latest Outback is still fresh from a recent update back in 2023. The new bold grille and front end give it a bolder look and personality. Even in the top-of-the-line trim, it still looks sharp. Not to mention, it complements the rest of the design all the way back to the liftgate.
One of the keys to the Outback’s exterior design is the 8.7-inch ground clearance. That creates a stance that is ready to tackle anything in its wake. The lower body profile is also people-friendly and easy on the eyes. We know why you like the Outback’s exterior design since it fits everywhere you go.
Passenger and cargo carrying is just right for all of us. Up to five people can climb in for a drive into the Metroplex’s traffic or out of town if so desired. You can carry up to 75.6 cubic feet of cargo space.
One thing the Touring XT does for us is make us feel like we’re being pampered. The Nappa Leather seats also kept us comfortable and warm. We even had to turn on the heated steering wheel. In all, the Outback’s cabin warms up nicely with its superb automatic climate control.
As the weather changed, we had to turn on the radio inside the Outback’s 11.6-inch STARLINK infotainment touchscreen. We also found it useful and quick, as we connected our phones to it. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto filled the large screen perfectly. The wireless charging pad was handy to keep our devices humming along. We can’t ignore the superb sound that came from the Touring XT’s 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system. The play-by-play from the Stars and Mavericks games never sounded better.
You do have two engines available on the Outback. The Touring XT came with the turbocharged 2.4-liter BOXER four-cylinder engine, which puts down 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. That’s more than enough power to manage anything the roads of the Metroplex threw at us.
However, we know you like the traction the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system provides in any conditions where you drive your Outback. For more traction management, turn on the X-MODE on the upper part of the STARLINK screen. That makes a rare snowstorm through North Texas an easier task for anyone to get through.
As an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety TOP SAFETY PICK winner, we already appreciate the EyeSight Driver Assistance Technology system. Even on icy roads and stormy conditions, this system saves lives. It comes standard on all 2025 Outback trim levels.
You have a choice of ten Outback trim levels. The Touring XT is for those who love their luxury and their Subaru capability in one neat package. It is worth looking at if you’re considering spending more on a useful, year-round vehicle that loves carrying everything anywhere you go – even away from the highway.
