The Best Hidden Features In Your Subaru

Are you a Subaru owner? If so, you probably think you know the ins and outs of your vehicle pretty well by now. But you don’t. If you did, you wouldn’t be reading an article about some of the coolest hidden features you can find in your Subaru vehicle.

That’s OK, though. The key word here is “hidden,” and some of the best features in your Subaru are a bit hidden in plain sight. So unless you’ve had a Subaru expert walk you through them, there’s no reason to feel bad if you never noticed them before. Anyway… without further ado, let’s take a look at some of these hidden gems.

1. Extend Your Seat: If you’re a taller person with longer legs, you may find that certain car seats just don’t quite fit your proportions. The Subaru driver’s seat actually has a cushion extension. Reach just in front and slightly below the seat cushion and you should find a level that will allow you to extend the cushion out for your comfort. This is found on certain trim levels of the Outback.

2. Cargo Cover Storage Space: The cargo cover in your Subaru can be nice but some people find that built-in cargo covers just get in the way. We get it, and it’s no problem. You can easily remove the cargo cover, which you may have already discovered, but you don’t have to store it in the garage once it’s removed. Check underneath the cargo floor liner and you should see a special space built specifically for stowing away your cargo cover.

3. Liftgate With a Memory: Some Subaru models with a liftgate may have a memory function included with that. Sometimes, your liftgate may open up too much either because you have objects in your garage in the way or the liftgate is just too tall for you to use the buttons located on the edge of the liftgate. Well, you can actually have it open up to a lower height not just once but every time you use it. First, open the tailgate all the way. Then, manually adjust the height to your preferences. If you have this feature, you’ll see a button to the left of your steering wheel (image of a liftgate). Press that button. Go back to the liftgate and press/hold the similar-looking button on the liftgate until you hear a beep. The liftgate memory has been set.

4. Cargo Lever: If you look in the cargo area of your Subaru, you may see some levers on the side. One of these levers likely folds down the rear seats for more cargo space, but another lever can be switched for a completely different purpose. This lever, or hook, is designed for holding cargo… bags specifically. If you have grocery or shopping bags that you’re worried about rolling around in the cargo area, just hook them to this lever to secure them.

So, there you have it. Subaru is always thinking of the small details that, when combined, result in a bigger and better driving experience. Keep in mind that the availability of these features will depend on your specific vehicle and model year. But, look around your vehicle to see what you can find, and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call us at Ewing Subaru of Plano, serving the north Texas area.
